Dried Sweet Gum Ball
Close-up of the dried fruit of the Sweet Gum Tree, or American Sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua). These distinctive, spiky fruits are seed heads commonly found on the ground beneath sweet gum trees in autumn and winter. They are hard, round, and covered in sharp spikes, often used in decorations or craft projects, or in this case to experiment with macro photography.
