Exploring the world through photography

Katwijk aan Zee, Emptiness and Minimalism

Today, I visited Katwijk aan Zee with my family for a walk and, hopefully, to capture some great photos. I wasn’t the only one with this idea—it was surprisingly crowded! This was quite ironic, as I had planned to take minimalist photos with plenty of open space. Fortunately, I was able to work around the crowds by focusing my shots toward the sea.

Below are two photos of a sport fisherman on the beach at Katwijk aan Zee.

I’m also quite pleased with this shot of people walking and cycling on the Buitensluis.

The Buitensluis in Katwijk aan Zee is a historic drainage sluice where the Oude Rijn flows into the North Sea. This hydraulic structure plays a crucial role in regulating water levels and ensuring the safety of Katwijk and the surrounding area. The system consists of two sluices: the Buitensluis at the seaside and the Binnensluis further inland.

All in all, I really enjoyed my time here, and I definitely want to come back to see if I can capture even more minimalist photos.
