Dried Sweet Gum Ball

Dried Sweet Gum Ball

Today I experimented for the first time with stacking multiple exposures together. In this case I created one photo by combining 35 images. I see that I have a lot to learn, but I’m quite happy with the result!

This is a close-up of the dried fruit of the Sweet Gum Tree, or American Sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua). These distinctive, spiky fruits are seed heads commonly found on the ground beneath sweet gum trees in autumn and winter. They are hard, round, and covered in sharp spikes, often used in decorations or craft projects, or in this case to experiment with macro photography 😉.
